"Mindset of Success"
Youth Entrepreneurship Program
with Vis Ability

Many students do not have a vision of their self in the future and believe they are limited by their current circumstances. Lacking these long-term goals, they choose to live for the moment and often make unsafe and unhealthy choices. CISGC is partnering with Vis Ability on the “Mindset of Success” All Terrain Brain program at the middle schools to address the great need for programs that motivate students to strive for a better life and to provide them with the life skills necessary to achieve their aspirations.

We have seen the success of the entrepreneur program in our 6th grade classes, where students excitedly tap into their passions and develop life skills, such as critical thinking, leadership, goal setting, and perseverance. With our guest local entrepreneurs, students understand that a vision of success in Greenbrier County is not only a possibility, it is happening here and now. This program introduces students to previously unknown possibilities and allows them to understand the connection between what they learn in the classroom and their long-term success. The sooner we can ignite a child's passion, the sooner they can build their own path to success!

"STUFF THE BUS School" Supply Drive

It was another great year for our "Stuff The Bus" school supply drive! At the Walmart in Lewisburg and the Kroger in Rainelle, two of Greenbrier County Schools’ busses were parked for the community to fill with much-needed supplies for local students. During the four-day campaign in August, the community gave in-kind donations of 3-ring binders, paper, pens, pencils, spiral notebooks, backpacks, crayons, glue sticks and markers - all the tools students need in the classroom! Local organizations and businesses also supported the school supply drive. WVSOM’s Delta Omega Club and the employees of Mon Power in Fairlea set up bins and collected supplies at their sites while Catholic Charities donated backpacks. At the conclusion of the drive, school supplies were sorted and distributed to all thirteen public schools in Greenbrier County!

Giving paper and pens to our schools may seem like a small thing but these contributions help remove one more barrier to student success in the classroom, allowing teachers to spend their time teaching and students to spend their time learning. It was truly a community effort between the organizations involved, the generosity of individuals and the 38 volunteers who gave over 100 hours to help "Stuff the Bus"! A very special thank you to everyone who came out to support our schools and our students!

The Greenbrier's "Dream Tree for Kids" makes a Special Holiday for Our Students!

Every year, our community celebrates the holiday season by reaching out to families in need and 2015 was no different. The generosity of individual donors, local businesses and The Greenbrier reached many CISGC families this year.

The Create a Dream Tree for Kids through The Greenbrier provided toys to students at seven CISGC sites: Alderson, Crichton, WSS and Ronceverte Elementary along with both middle schools and Greenbrier East High School. Communities In Schools' donors supported EGMS's "Christmas for a Knight" program which provides families in need with toys, clothing, school supplies, and food, allowing our students to feel the warmth of the season.

Thank you to The Create a Dream Tree for Kids team, Mr. Jim Justice, our holiday donors and all of those who work to make the holiday season special for all!
